Apple Vision Pro Could Ship With 16GB Of Unified Memory, Box Contents Revealed

0

Apple’s Vision Pro is right around the corner. While we already know that the headset will feature a dual-chip design with Apple’s M2 for powerful standalone performance for handling apps and the R1 chip for managing input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones, we didn’t have any idea about the available memory on the device, until now.

Vision Pro To Include 16GB Of RAM Alongside The M2 Processor

Apple Vision Pro

According to a report by MacRumors, the Vision Pro will come with 16GB of Unified Memory. The publication cites files related to the device in Xcode 15.2. For those catching up, Xcode is the developer toolkit for creating apps for Apple’s operating systems like iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and now, visionOS.

In The Future, There Could Be A 1TB Variant As Well

The finding confirms a June 2023 report published by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman about the presence of 16GB of RAM on the headset. Further, the report also mentions how some Vision Pro developer kits included 1TB of internal storage on the device. Nonetheless, for now, Apple is moving ahead with the 256GB storage variant of the device, which will be available for $3,499.

Apple Vision Pro to get a lighter successor

Pre-orders for the Vision Pro begin on January 19, while retail units hit the stores on February 2. Along with the headset, users must purchase ZEISS Readers for $99 and ZEISS Prescription optical inserts for $149.

Here’s What Users Will Get In The Box

In the box, users will also get two bands holding the headset in place: the Solo Knit Band and the Dual Loop Band. Further, the box also includes a Light Seal, two Light Seal Cushions, a cover for the front of the device, a polishing cloth, a battery, a USB-C charge cable, and a USB-C power adapter. Looks like the box contents make up for a sizeable chunk of the Vision Pro’s extravagant pricing.

Xbox Developer Direct to Showcase Indiana Jones Game, Avowed, Hellblade 2, More

0

Microsoft is returning with an Xbox Developer Direct next week, promising updates on the much anticipated Indiana Jones game, Obsidian’s upcoming fantasy RPG Awoved, and more. The presentation is scheduled to go live next Thursday, January 18 at 1:30am IST in India/ 12pm PT in the US, and will be available to watch on Xbox’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. True to the name, the event will include both gameplay footage and developer interviews to best illustrate upcoming titles in the ecosystem, a lot of which will be included with Xbox Game Pass. However, it is worth noting that despite the recently completed acquisition, don’t expect any Activision Blizzard games to be shown during the broadcast.

The standout here is MachineGuns’ Indiana Jones game, which was confirmed to be a PC and Xbox exclusive from the Microsoft vs US FTC trial in June. Announced just months after the company acquired ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion (about Rs. 62,264 crore), Indian Jones’ first gameplay trailer will likely put us in the shoes of the famous archaeologist with the whip and give out more details about the general premise of the title. This segment will run a little over 10 minutes. Meanwhile, developer Ninja Theory will take us on yet another behind-the-scenes trip into the world of Hellblade 2, charting a new path in Senua’s tale as she ventures into Viking Iceland to save innocents from a tyrannical rule. Hopefully, we get a solid release date this time — the team has been teasing its usage of Unreal Engine 5 for years now and understandably, players are getting impatient.

Obsidian is at the top of its league when it comes to writing branching RPGs, and fans are expecting to be stunned when they’re transported back to the fictional world of Eora, first introduced in the Pillars of Eternity series. In Avowed, Obsidian’s next RPG, you assume the role of a messenger tasked with investigating rumours of a spreading plague in the vibrant Living Lands, flush with intriguing characters, breathing environments, and absurd wildlife. Master spells, wield swords imbued with elemental magic, and make quick work of enemies through unorthodox methods. Given how much Baldur’s Gate 3 valued player agency and impressed gamers globally, Avowed has got some big shoes to fill. Then Oxide Games will show off some new Ara: History Untold gameplay, alongside ‘details about the inspiration, key features, and the road ahead.’

Shortly after the Xbox Developer Direct event, ZeniMax Online Studios has planned a broadcast for The Elder Scrolls Online, revealing the next big chapter that brings in a whole new zone, plot threads, and quality-of-life features. The show goes live at 2:30am IST in India/ 1pm PT in the US on the same Xbox channel. Elsewhere, there are rumours of Sea of Thieves coming to PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch systems — if true, we could learn more about it during the digital event.

The Xbox Developer Direct is scheduled for January 18 at 1:30am IST in India/ 12pm PT in the US.

Apollo group asteroid to buzz Earth, says NASA; Check speed, size, and other details

0

NASA, ESA, and other space agencies have developed technology to track asteroids in their orbits, and even deflect them in case a potential impact scenario develops. While most of them are present in the main asteroid belt located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, they often pass Earth. Interaction with a planet’s gravitational field can sometimes knock asteroids off course, sending them tumbling towards a planet for impact. Therefore, it is crucial that asteroids be tracked to minimize the uncertainties around their close approaches. Using its tech, NASA has now shed light on an asteroid that is expected to pass Earth today, January 10. Know all about this close approach.

Asteroid 2023 XT14: Speed, size, distance, and more

The asteroid, designated as Asteroid 2023 XT14 is expected to pass Earth at a distance of approximately 4.6 million kilometers today, according to the NASA Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS). It is already travelling towards Earth in its orbit at 22943 kilometers per hour which is almost as fast as Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs)!

This space rock belongs to the Apollo group of Near-Earth Asteroids, which are Earth-crossing space rocks with semi-major axes larger than Earth’s. These asteroids are named after the humongous 1862 Apollo asteroid, discovered by German astronomer Karl Reinmuth in the 1930s, according to NASA.

In terms of size, Asteroid 2023 XT14 is almost 85 feet wide, making it almost as big as an aircraft!

This is the first time that Asteroid 2023 XT14 has come close to Earth, NASA has revealed. After today, it will pass the planet at a distance of 21 million kilometers on December 24, 2119. Due to close calls with asteroids, NASA, ESA, and other space agencies have developed technology to track these space rocks in their orbits, and even deflect them in case a potential impact scenario develops.

Tokyo Game Show 2023: Like a Dragon Gaiden, Persona 5 Tactica, More Coming to Xbox Game Pass on Day-One

0

Xbox announced a slew of new titles coming to its Game Pass subscription service this year. At its Tokyo Game Show segment, held Thursday, the publisher confirmed that Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will be available to members for free on day one i.e., November 9. In it, Kazama Kiryu, the famous Yakuza who faked his death to protect his family, slips into the black suit once again and works as a bodyguard codenamed ‘Joryu.’ His cover is soon threatened when a mysterious figure with ties to the past comes to haunt him, spawning a crazed frenzy across the streets of Japan, as we punch our way through hordes.

Then, prepare to journey into 1860s Japan with Like a Dragon: Ishin!, which is slated to arrive on Xbox Game Pass sometime this year. Don the clothes and weaponry of the venerable lone samurai Sakamoto Ryoma to clear your name off murder and in turn, restore honour to your family’s legacy. Deflect oncoming bullets with your katana, slice down the naysayers, and feed red hot pickles to your enemies in this historical adventure that was once considered impossible to port by developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. For the uninitiated, this Yakuza game was released earlier this year on PC and console, and now the Game Pass debut allows members to play it for free.

Microsoft’s attempts to buy SEGA might’ve gone nowhere, but the latter continues putting its titles up for easy access on Xbox Game Pass. The chibi-styled Persona 5 Tactica is also coming on day one — November 17 — on the service, pitting the Phantom Thieves into a bizarre Medieval Europe-inspired realm, whose citizens thrive under the watchful tyrannical oppression from the Legionnaires. In addition to its turn-based combat system that’s reliant on planning, the game also brings a new Quest system — a set of special stages that grant rewards in exchange for completing them. Persona 5 Tactica will be out on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Meanwhile, the long-awaited Persona 3 remake arrives February 2, 2024, putting you in the shoes of a transfer student moonlighting as a hero to investigate the ‘Dark Hour.’

The original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy comes to Xbox Game Pass next week, on September 26, so you can conduct hardcore investigations and fight to save your clients in engaging courtroom battles. All 14 episodes spanning the first three games — Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Justice For All, and Trials and Tribulations — are included in this package. Another key highlight was Forza Motorsport — out October 10 — showing off its Japanese Hakone race track, surrounded by beautiful cherry blossom trees.

We also got a look at Mineko’s Night Market, an adorable social simulation game that has you unravel the secrets behind the mythical Sun Cat Nikko, who’s been sighted several times at the base of Mount Fugu. Solve puzzles, craft peculiar items to survive, and have your cat compete in races. It’s out October 26 on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Then there’s Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes releasing on April 23, 2024 — a classic JRPG experience where you lead over 100 playable characters across the war-torn lands of Allraan.

Here’s the list of games from Tokyo Game Show confirmed to land on Xbox Game Pass, for quick reference:

  • Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes — April 23, 2024 (Day One)

An Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription starts in India at Rs. 549 per month, whereas PC Game Pass/ Core (console) standard membership costs Rs. 349 monthly.

Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek confirmed as top seeds for 2024 Australian Open

0

24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and world number 1 Iga Swiatek have been confirmed as the top seeds for the 2024 Australian Open, which is set to begin on January 14.

Australian Open 2024: Full coverage

The men’s seeding for this year’s Australian Open replicates the ATP rankings from positions 1-32. Headlining the seedings is Djokovic, who is trailed by 2023 Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz, who was the only player who was able to beat Djokovic in a Grand Slam event last year.

The women’s seeding follow the rankings from positions 1 to 8. However, the notable exception is Barbora Krejcikova, who has been elevated to the 9th spot. The reason behind her promotion is Karolina Muchova’s absence due to injury.

Known for her triumphant journey to the French Open finals last year, Muchova has been off the grid since she succumbed to Coco Gauff, the eventual champion, during the US Open semifinals in September.

Notable absentees also include Petra Kvitova and Madison Keys. Kvitova, with two Wimbledon titles to her name, is expecting a baby thus will miss the year’s first major tournament. Keys, a standout from last year’s US Open, is being sidelined due to a shoulder injury.

The defined seeding is fundamental in ensuring that players ranked in the top 32 evade each other during the initial rounds. Consequently, this guarantees that the top two seeds won’t face each other until the finals.

Top-10 seeds in men’s singles

1. Novak Djokovic (SRB)

2. Carlos Alcaraz (ESP)

3. Daniil Medvedev

4. Jannik Sinner (ITA)

5. Andrey Rublev

6. Alexandre Zverev (GER)

7. Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE)

8. Holger Rune (DEN)

9. Hubert Hurkacz (POL)

10. Alex de Minaur (AUS)

Top-10 seeds women’s singles

CES 2024: Amazon partners with BMW to bring Alexa voice assistant to cars; Know all about it

0

Artificial intelligence (AI) was the buzzword of 2023, with the world’s largest tech companies incorporating this technology into their suite of products. Consequently, we’ve not only seen the emergence of new AI tools such as AI chatbots, but also its embrace by legacy organizations such as Adobe, and Microsoft. Not just in tech, but AI is making waves in the automotive world as well. At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, Amazon and BMW have announced a partnership that will see AI come into the fold. Know all about it.

Amazon-BMW partnership

As part of the partnership, a Large Language Model (LLM) with Amazon Alexa will be merged with the vehicle’s user manual. This move would allow users to ask anything they wish to know about their vehicle, and Alexa will answer it in a flash, without having to manually dig into the user manual.

As per Amazon, this adoption of AI presents a “more natural way of getting to know your new car”. Vehicle owners will be able to ask questions about different vehicle systems such as ADAS, ESP, ABS, infotainment, and more. Not only this, the AI system will be able to change drive modes, tweak climate control settings, set music, and more, with voice commands. It will use Alexa Custom Assistant technology (ACA) that can potentially strip away complexity and minimize distractions in the car.

This move comes after Amazon and BMW announced a partnership to develop a custom BMW in-vehicle voice assistant with Alexa in focus in September 2022.

Amazon says, “Your car is the perfect place for a voice assistant—and Amazon and BMW showcased what’s possible with new Alexa LLM-powered capabilities. These new capabilities provide a more natural way of getting to know your new car and allow it to take select actions on your behalf.”

The Amazon-BMW partnership is just one of the many key announcements made by the retail giant at the ongoing CES 2024.

After releasing the Intel Core Ultra processors last month, the chipmaker has dropped the 14th generation of desktop processors. The family is led by Core i9-14900HX, one of the most powerful desktop processors on the market. Further, Intel has also released the HX-Series of mobile processors and the Core Series 1 family. Since there’s much to cover, let’s start without any further ado.

Intel’s 14th Generation Desktop Processors Are Here

Intel's 14th Generation Desktop Processors Are Here

“The new generation of processors continue to utilize Intel’s performance hybrid architecture to optimize your gaming, content creation, and productivity,” per the official press release. There are three new models with two iterations each.

First, there’s the Core i9K and the Core i9KF with a Max Turbo Frequency of up to 6.0 GHz, up to 24 cores (including eight performance and 16 efficient cores), and 32 processor threads. While the Core i9K ships with Intel’s UHD Graphics 770, the i9KF doesn’t include the graphics processor.

Then there are the Core i7K and Core i7KF processors, which ship with a Max Turbo Frequency of up to 5.6 GHz, up to 20 cores (including eight performance and 12 efficient cores), and 28 processing threads. Similar to the Core i9 series, the i7K ships with the Intel UHD graphics processor powered by the Xe architecture, while the i7K variant doesn’t.

However, the Intel UHD Graphics 770 on the Core i7K processor has a lesser graphics dynamic frequency (1600 MHz) than the Core i9K processor (1650 MHz).

Last but not least, desktop processors include the Intel Core i5K and the Core i5KF processors that ship with a Max Turbo Frequency of up to 5.3 GHz, 14 processor cores (including six performance and eight efficient cores), and 20 processing threads.
