Exclusive! Shamita Shetty on TikTok ban: In light of what’s happening at the Galwan valley, I totally support the government’s decision – Times of India

On Monday, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese mobile apps including the most used app TikTok. According to reports, the app is used by almost 120 million people in the country which also includes several Bollywood celebrities like Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Shamita Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia D’Souza, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kartik Aaryan and others. The ban on TikTok has been getting mixed reactions on social media.

Actress Shamita, who was actively using the app for making hilarious videos and enjoyed a huge fan following, supports the decision of the government. In an exclusive interaction with ETimes, she said that she naturally stopped making videos since she was not very happy with whatever has been going on in the world.

Reacting to the decision, she said, “In light of what’s happening at the Galwan valley, I totally support the government’s decision. As far as TikTok is concerned, I had naturally stopped posting a while ago… was just not very happy with everything I was watching on the news. From what I have understood, there are some security issues with our data being compromised with these apps so I guess it’s the right decision to ban them till they prove otherwise.”

The Indian Ministry of Information Technology said that the Chinese apps are engaged in activities which are ‘prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state and public order’.

Other celebs like Malaika Arora and Nikitin Dheer too have hailed the government’s decision of banning the app.
