New Brazil coach Dorival Junior promises to turnaround poor run of form of five-time World Champions

Brazil’s new coach Dorival Junior is hoping to turnaround the fortunes of the five-time World Cup winners after being officially unveiled in his new role on Thursday, January 11.

The former Sao Paulo manager took over the reigns from Fernando Diniz, who was sacked following a wretched run of form for the Selecao. Since their loss in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup, Brazil currently find themselves in a tricky position in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Brazil have lost three of their six matches so far, having won just two and trail leaders Argentina by eight points. Dorival told the reporters, as quoted by Reuters, that he hopes to turn things around for the five-time World Champions.

“Today I am here representing the most winning team on the planet, the one that inspires many around the world. And it has the obligation to win again,” Dorival told a news conference.

“Our moment is difficult. But nothing that is impossible to reverse quickly.”

We need to look for solutions: Brazil coach Dorival

Dorival said that there is no to blame for the plight of Brazil at the moment and they need to look for solutions and deliver a reliable national team.

“There is no one to blame. There is no interference, there is nothing like that. What we need from now on is to look for solutions,” the 61-year-old Dorival added.

“We need to deliver a reliable national team, one that gives us all credibility. Brazilian football is very strong, it reinvents itself. It cannot go through the moment it is going through. Let it serve as a lesson so we can find a new way forward.”

Dorival’s first game in charge will be a friendly against England on March 23.
